The Pomeranian Shih Tzu mix dogs are also known as Shiranian. They are also referred to as Pom-Tzu, Shih A Pom and Shih-Pom. Shiranians are cross breed dogs or hybrids of Pomeranian and Shih-Tzu breeds. It is a hugely popular pet nowadays and is often referred to as ‘designer dogs’. Shiranians could either be first generation or second generation dogs. When the parents used for crossbreeding are both purebred dogs, then they are called as first generation dogs. This is applicable to Shiranians too when a purebred Pomeranian and purebred Shih Tzu are used. Second generation dogs means that these hybrid dogs are bred from parents both of whom are shiranians. Size and color:
Pomeranian Shih Tzu mixdogs have long and flowing double coats like Shih-Tzu and in most cases; the coat will be straight, though in some cases, it may have a slight curl. Living conditions for a Pomeranian Shih Tzu Mix:
Pomeranian Shih Tzu mixdogs are well suited for indoor life and are happy when they can play outdoors occasionally. It silky coat prevents it from being comfortable when left outside and alone for long periods of time. Shiranians need human companionship and an adequate amount of play and exercise is the ideal environmental condition for them. Small walks on a daily basis are the ideal exercise for them, as they will not be able to go for long walks due to their small size and fragile nature. When given proper training at the correct age, shiranians are able to live up to their maximum potential. Though training is relatively easy when it comes to Pomeranian Shih Tzu mix dogs, they can be quite stubborn at times and need to be dealt with in the right way.
Pomeranian Shih Tzu mix dogs are generally healthy and not have many health problems. But they do have a tendency to develop the health problem of hip dysplasia and this can be easily determined by investigating the health details about the dog’s parents. Shiranians which are of a smaller size are not very suitable for families who have small children, because these dogs may be at the receiving end with children who play too roughly.
Grooming a Pomeranian Shih Tzu Mix:
Pomeranian Shih Tzu mix being designer dogs with double coats, they come under the category of high maintenance dogs, because they have to be groomed well. Their coat needs o be brushed on a regular basis and these dogs need bath to remove dirt from its coat when needed. It is recommended to do grooming for these dogs on a regular basis, so that their coat stays smooth and clean. If the dog has a long coat, it may not need as much grooming as in case of dogs with smaller coats, similar to the style of a Shih-tzu. It is also important to note that these dogs need to be towel-dried after a wash or a bath, as their skin in extremely sensitive and hence cannot withstand blow drying. The long coats of these dogs need regular combing, or else they may get tangled easily.
